Have Questions? ... Here's the Answers!

General Questions:

How do I place an order?

You may email me at sweetcs@wi.rr.com !  Once I receive your request I will e-mail you to confirm the order and to finalize any details.  If you do not hear back from me within 24 hours of filling out the order form please call me to confirm.  980-4037 If you would rather place an order by telephone then please e-mail me or call with a telephone number that I can reach you at.

What about payment?  Most payments can be made at the time of pickup or delivery.  For orders over $75 payment is asked in advance.  Cash, check paid to Sweet Creations, or I can invoice you via PayPal.

What about Character Cakes?

Because of copyright laws I am not allowed to sell cakes decorated to look like licensed characters.  I can do cakes in colors to match your partyware.  I can also do what I call "background" or "scenery" cakes and then you can place a purchased character candle or figurines on the cake.

Do you charge for delivery?

Delivery and setup is free for Sheboygan County for cakes over 100 servings. However, returns (equipment) are your responsibility, and you will be charged for equipment not returned on time or in acceptable condition.  Delivery outside the area or for smaller cakes may require an additional charge.

Wedding Cake Questions:

Did you know that the wedding cake is the 3rd most photographed at any wedding? (Bride and Groom are numbers 1 and 2.)  Let’s make sure it’s beautiful and of course delicious!

How much does the average wedding cake cost?

Most bakeries will charge you by the slice. Remember, this amount could vary some due to the size of cake you need. In order for the cake to be proportioned correctly, you may need to increase or decrease the number by a few servings. The number of servings including the top tier is used to determine the price. There are separate charges for fondant icing,  ribbons, bows, figurines etc.  Generally speaking my cakes range from $1.25 to $3.00 per slice.

How do we choose our Cake?

Think of things you enjoy.  Gather together the theme of your wedding. (colors, flowers, invitations, events)  Look at pictures.  When you are ready to start planning what your cake will look like, give me a call to set up a free consultation.  I enjoy sitting down with couples to work with them to give a cake that is uniquely theirs.  In this 1 hour we will discuss the number of servings you’ll need, shape, size, flavor, and design of your cake!  Any additional ideas you have we can discuss then as well.

(Additional consultations for more time can be made for more complex designs at an a fee of $50 hour)

Do we need a cake knife and server?

Yes, you do need a knife and cake server for slicing the cake and taking pictures. Some sites provide them, but most do not.

Do you provide a cutting service?

No, I do not cut the wedding cake. You may check with your caterer, as some of them provide this service. They may charge a fee for cutting the cake. Another option is to have a family member or friend cut the cake for you. A cake cutting guide will be provided for them to use to insure the correct number of servings is achieved.

Who does the flowers on the cake and cake table?

Your florist will be able to help you choose the appropriate flowers and foliage. If fresh flowers are being used on your cake, you are responsible for the flowers and making sure that the flowers and foliage are safe to place on edible cake. Some flowers and foliage are not safe to use. It is your responsibility to select wisely with the assistance of your florist. I can coordinate times and delivery with them as needed. I can also arrange the flowers on the cake if needed. However, they are to be provided by you or the florist.

Can each tier be a different flavor?

Yes, each tier can be a different flavor. However, it is recommended that you have no more than 2 to 3 flavors.  If you have too many flavors, your guests may want to sample them all leaving you not enough servings. If you would like to have more than 2 flavors, you certainly may do so, I would suggest increasing the number of servings to allow for this.

What about saving the cake top for our One year anniversary?

Some people still follow this tradition. If you decide to save the top tier, freezing instructions will be provided to you.   However, I offer a free “First Anniversary coupon” to be used to celebrate your first year of wedded bliss.  Just call 2 weeks before the date and I will make a 6” replica of your wedding cake in the flavor of your choice.

How about a grooms cake?

The groom's cake has become something that represents the groom's interests, hobbies, profession, etc. Having a groom's cake is optional. Some couples continue to have one at their reception. Another fun option is serving it at the rehearsal dinner.

A word on Dummy cakes and Sheet Cakes:

Occasionally couples want to use a smaller cake to use for cutting and pictures and then serve from sheet cakes kept in the kitchen.  If you go with this option, the sheet cakes must also come from me.  If the sheet cake is ordered elsewhere it may not be of the same quality and to your guests that is unfair and reflects poorly on the decorator.  Sheet cakes will be layered the same as the tiered as to keep a uniform slice.  Pricing for this will be discussed at the consultation.

Dummy cakes may be used to make a smaller cake appear larger by using Styrofoam “dummies” as a base that are decorated to look like part of your cake.  Dummy cakes are priced as any tiered cake as they take the same time and effort to decorate.
